Teaching Assistant Instruction Guide for Hydraulics Lab – CE381

Context: I took over the lecture session and lab instruction from two very experienced individuals. As such, much of the everyday aspects of the course were new to me, whereas the previous instructors had much of the format and content committed to memory. As I learned the specifics of lab procedures in advance of each classroom session, I developed an informal guide to assist future teaching assistants in their role as lab instructor.

Reflection: This instruction guide is an example of an effort to make a course reproducible. I believe that it is important for instructors to be well-prepared for class, but recognize that this can be very time-consuming. If instructors have teaching aids that can expedite certain aspects of classroom preparation, more time is free for refining of course material, exercises, and learning assessments.
