Hiking excursion in Pasadena

I was in Pasadena, CA for work this week and got a chance to squeeze in a hike with a coworker.  We didn't get started until about 4:45 so it was a race against the sun.  The Lower Sam Merrill Trail leads you to the historic White City Resort, which was all-inclusive at a reasonable rate of $5 back in 1894. The gears below were used as part of the tram that brought guests up to the hotel.

At the foundation of the old resort:

This ~5 mile hike gave some great views of the surrounding sprawl and even the city lights as the sun went down.  After taking a few pictures at the abandoned site, we hurried down to finish up before all light had left the sky…

This hike left me completely exhausted and I could really feel all the muscles in my legs!
